Project Stop Ferret Overpopulation
Dear Shelter Caretaker,
As you are well aware, ferret shelters all across the country are filled to the limit and yet, ferrets are still being bred and sold in pet stores. In an effort to reduce the number of ferrets coming into shelters we are collecting data from all shelters in the USA to present to the American Veterinary Medical Association. The end result we are aiming for is regulation of the number of ferrets produced in the US annually. This is a very large undertaking for us but we believe that if each shelter does their small part we will be able to convince to AVMA to do their part as well. The information we require from you is:
- How many ferrets were surrendered to your shelter in 2007? (If you have numbers from previous years please send those as well)
- Are you a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization?
- Are you a no-kill shelter?
- If you are not a no-kill shelter, how many ferret had to be euthanized in your shelter in 2007? (If you have numbers from previous years please send those as well)
- How many ferrets lived out their lives in your shelter in 2007? (If you have numbers from previous years please send those as well)
- On average, what was your ferret population in 2007? (If you have numbers from previous years please send those as well)
Please return information by November 1, 2008. We thank you in advance for your speedy effort in this project.
